Update: China's retail sales up 15.4% in AugPublished: 10 Sep 2009 22:45:21 PST<p class="authorInfor"]</p]<!--begin CK content--]<ul class="narrow"]Top 5 News From ChinaKnowledge.comShell push for local production of coal gasification equipmentFar East Consortium buys land in SingaporeBAIC to buy minority stake in Koenigsegg GroupUpdate: China's retail sales up 15.4% in AugCCB International to launch 1st RMB PE fund: report<P]Sep. 11, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's retail sales reached RMB 1.01 trillion in August, representing a year-on-year rise of 15.4%, said the National Bureau of Statistics today.</P]<P]The August growth was 7.8 percentage points less than that in the same period of last year, but 0.2 percentage points higher than that in July.</P]<P]The total retail sales in urban areas amounted to RMB 693.5 billion, increasing by 15.3% from a year earlier, while retail sales in areas at or below the county level rose 15.5% year on year to RMB 318.1 billion.</P]<P]Retail sales from the wholesale and retail industry rose 15.4% from a year earlier to RMB 849.5 billion, while retail sales from the hospitality industry increased 16.8% year on year to RMB145.4 billion. </P]<P]Sales of automobiles, buildings and decoration materials, clothing, daily consumer products and grains and edible oils surged by 34.8%, 36.6%, 23.3%, 15.6% and 12.7% respectively.</P]<P]In the first eight months of this year, China's retail sales increased 15.1% year on year to RMB 7.88 trillion, said the NBS.</P]
