China's power consumption falls 12.88% in JanPublished: 17 Feb 2009 00:00:00 PST<p class="authorInfor"]</p]<!--begin CK content--]<P]Feb. 17, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China's power consumption in January declined 12.88% compared with the same period of last year, while its power generation totaled 247.64 billion kw, down 12.30% year on year, according to the statistics by China Electricity Council.</P]<P]China's power consumption went down 3.7% last October, 8.6% in November, and 8.93% in December. The sharp decline in January shows that the China's industrial sector continues to slide further into recession. </P]<P]Southeastern provinces such as Guangdong and Zhejiang, whose industries are more developed, experienced decreases of over 20%.</P]<P]Analysts said that the Spring Festival also contributed to the plunge in power consumption. However, the January figure, after deducting the effect of Spring Festival, still indicates a slide trend in China's industrial economy.<BR]</P]
